Natural sites of interest in southern Quebec - Context

As part of the St. Lawrence Action Plan 2011-2026 (SLAP), the Canadian Wildlife Service of Environment Canada (CWS-EC) and the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques (MDDELCC) launched an initiative to prepare an inventory of projects designed to identify natural sites of interest for conservation in southern Quebec. The objective is to obtain a comprehensive picture of these initiatives to guide the subsequent development of an integrated conservation plan for the SLAP study area. Ultimately, the integrated plan will be used as a tool to help prioritize conservation actions of funding programs like the CIP (Community Interaction Program) and the HSP (Habitat Stewardship Program for Species at Risk), or to update the land use and development plans of regional county municipalities.

Dissemination of the inventory will also facilitate communication among the various players in the conservation community by providing information about organizations involved in habitat conservation and projects being carried out in their area. This information may then stimulate new partnerships and increase conservation efficiency in southern Quebec.
