Sampling the St. Lawrence River

Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières - UQTR Research Vessel, the Lampsilis

Lampsilis - UQTR
UQTR

The Lampsilis has wet and dry laboratories and is equipped with sensors for measuring physical, chemical, and optical properties of the water as well as samplers for water, plankton, invertebrates, and fish. With a length of 25 m and a very shallow draft (1 m), it allows sampling in shallow riverine habitats as well as the deeper zones and strong currents of the navigation channel and lower estuary. The ship can also navigate in the fresh and brackish waters of the St. Lawrence River and in some of its tributaries, the Saguenay River, Lake Champlain, and the Great Lakes.
