This page is the
most complex of the application. It allows you to select one or
many zones within which you wish to obtain data.

The left of the screen shows a map of the area covered by the Québec
Region. Above it appear the following five buttons:
 |
Activates
the zoom mode. The rectangle that you draw
with the mouse will enlarge the dimensions of the map while
keeping approximately the same height and width proportions
of your selection. |
 |
Activates
the select mode. This button allows you to
select a rectangular zone without manually entering its coordinates. |
 |
Returns the
map to its original dimensions. The HOME
key on your keyboard will perform the same function. |
 |
Increases
the dimensions of the map with each mouse click. The PAGEDOWN
key on your keyboard will perform the same function. |
 |
Reduces the
dimensions of the map with each mouse click. The PAGEUP
key on your keyboard will perform the same function. |
The right side of the screen has three buttons at the lower side:
Add, Edit, and Delete.
These buttons are used to add, modify, or delete coordinates on
the list above. This section is empty when the application is started.
If you would like information on the search algorithm used, you may consult the section Notes
on the algorithms.

You may add one
or more rectangles in one of two ways: manually or graphically by
using the mouse.
If you choose the manual method, click on the button Add.
The following window opens:

You enter the coordinates of the upper left and lower right corners
of the rectangle. The coordinates initially present in the window
are those of the entire map shown to the left. The latitudes and
longitudes can be entered in either of two formats: degrees, minutes,
decimal
minutes with the cardinal point (ddd mm.mmm N/S/E/W), which is
the format used initially, or the format decimal degrees preceded
by
the sign "+" or "-" (±ddd.ddd; "+"
= north or west, "-" =south or east). You enter the desired
position and you click Ok to confirm your choice.
After confirmation, the window will close, the values will appear
on the table, and the rectangle corresponding to the positions
will be drawn and shaded on the map. If you want to return to
the initial
values, you click on Get initial coordinates.
To delete the operation, you click Cancel and
the window will close. You may add as many pairs of coordinates
as you
wish. After you have entered several positions, your map may look
something like the following screen:

To enter coordinates in the graphic mode, you must first activate
the select mode on the map by clicking the icon .
To enter a pair of coordinates defining a rectangle, you position
the mouse at one corner of the rectangle that you want to draw.
While holding down the left mouse button, slide the cursor toward
the opposite corner of the desired rectangle and release the mouse
button. The window for adding spatial references will then appear.
You click Ok to add the indicated positions. You
may also modify the coordinates before finally accepting them.

In this case, you
select a line to delete and then click the button Delete.
A window opens, asking you to confirm the deletion, as in the following
figure:

If you click Yes, the line will be deleted as
well as the corresponding rectangle on the map. You may also directly
delete a rectangle from the map by moving the cursor over the rectangle,
clicking the right mouse button, and choosing Delete
from the text box. The confirmation window will appear; you click
Yes and the rectangle as well as the corresponding
line in the table will be deleted. |
